Depending on their goals many athletes tailor their nutrition to be rich or low in carbohydrates. A substantial number of fitness athletes use carbohydrates to support training. Some of them above all in a combination with protein. This combination is found to a large extent in the so-called weight gainer products. They contain a considerable proportion of carbohydrates and proteins and are hence used above all to build muscle and mass.
In addition to their normal nutrition stamina athletes and competitive athletes also supply their bodies with extra carbohydrates – especially if longer training phases are on the cards.
